[Maxxie's cheeks burn a little hotter and he kind of rolls his eyes in desperation, putting his hands on Terry's chest as if to shove him gently.]

You said you did when you decided to leave!

[He has to replay it in his head, trying to remember everything he said in the heat of the moment, but there's that dawning recognition on his face when he realises.]

Oh. "people I love." I guess you're one of those.

[Actually eyeroll.]

What, is that different or something?

[Terry thinks he's hilarious and laughs, and he moves a little so he can kiss Maxxie on the side of his face.]

I dunno, but I do know that I love you, so. [Shrug. NBD.]

[Maxxie gives him another gentle shove and then cuddles in to nuzzle at Terry's face.]

You're awful.

[Terry grins and wraps his arms around Maxxie tightly, squeezing him a little like it's the only way to get all his affection out.]

But you love me. You can't take that back.

[Uuuuughhh.]

I do.

[He pulls away with a grin.]

And you love me.

I never...

[He trails off and shakes his head, trailing his fingers up Maxxie's back instead.] Never mind.

[He grins and continues cuddling in.]

It's stupid, it's just...

[Terry sucks in a shaky breath, turning his head a little because he's fairly certain he's gonna get looked at when he says this and he doesn't want that.]

It's just not something I ever thought I'd hear.

[He'd be right, because Maxxie pulls away to frown at him concerned. He sighs because he doesn't want him to feel that way.]

Well you have now, and I do mean it. You're probably the best thing that ever happened to me.

[Oh--]

[Terry still doesn't look at him, but he laughs. Of course it's more the kind of awkward laugh of a man trying not to cry.]

Shut up.

Nope.

[He kisses Terry's face.]

Can't get away from me now.

[Terry makes a noise like he wants to protest this — not having Maxxie in his life, that part's great, but being the best thing that happened to him. That can't be even a little bit true. He's not a good thing that's happened to anyone.]

Fuck-- [He sniffs and lifts a hand to his face to check for any wetness. None so far, but god.] This is so embarrassing.

Yeah.

[Maxxie gives him a smug grin.]

But it's alright 'cause I'm your boyfriend who loves you and I won't think less of you.

[Terry laughs again and finally turns his head to look at Maxxie with a faint smile. He's just so great, it's lie everything in this world is just that bit more bearable whenever he's around.]

You're too good for me, you know. [He shakes his head and brushes some of Maxxie's hair out of his face.] I'm not complaining about it, I'm pretty happy with how it's worked out for me, but you are.

[Maxxie smiles at him and brushes some hair away from Terry's forehead.]

Nah, I'm not too good for you. You're pretty good too, even if you won't admit it.

I don't get it.

[He chews his lip for a moment, hesitating. He knows Maxxie hates it when he talks like this, but he just can't understand.]

You're like this... This ray of light, you know? Everything just seems brighter and better whenever you're around. Like the world can't be that bad because you're in it.

And I'm... I couldn't be less like that if I tried.

[Maxxie blushes, looking away for a second as he gets over all that complimenting.]

Well, my world is better because you're in it. You shouldn't sell yourself short. You care so much and you fight so hard... I really admire that.

[He sniffs again, trying really hard to keep that stinging behind his eyelids from spilling over, and he presses a palm over one of his eyes. It's like no matter how many times he hears it, hears people tell him how he's helped them or just generally been good for them, he can't make himself think anything other than that they're wrong. That they just don't understand.]

[Well fuck. Terry swears under his breath and murmurs an apology because those are totally tears escaping now. How embarrassing, this shouldn't even be about him.]

[Maxxie doesn't hesitate before he brings his hand back up to Terry's face, brushing away some tears with his thumb. It's fine, he'll wait it out rather than showering Terry with more tear-jerking affection.]

I can't believe this.

[He huffs indignantly and scrubs at his eyes. This is dumb emotions are dumb.]

This shouldn't even be about me.

[Maxxie sighs and brushes his thumb back and forth on Terry's cheek.]

Well, this whole thing with Sora would make me really scared if I didn't have you. I mean I'm still scared, but... at least I know I have you, yeah? I just want you to know how important that is.

[He wants to say he's not going anywhere, but he can't make that promise. Terry frowns for a moment and then takes the hand on his face, turning his head a little to kiss Maxxie's palm.]

Yeah, you've got me. Tears and everything.

[Maxxie smiles, soft and sad, and then he cuddles in to tuck head underneath Terry's. Maybe if they just lie down and pretend nothing's wrong he'll feel better.]
